5 Factors to Consider Before Schedule a Facet Block Injection Procedure in Noho, NY

When it comes to managing chronic pain, particularly in the back and neck, facet block injections are a highly effective treatment option. If you’re considering a facet block injection procedure in Noho, NY, understanding the essential factors involved can help you make an informed decision. Here are five crucial considerations before scheduling your facet block injection.

  1. Understand the Procedure

A facet block injection for pain relief involves the precise injection of an anesthetic and anti-inflammatory medication into the facet joints of the spine. These joints can be a significant source of back and neck pain, and targeting them directly can provide significant relief. This procedure, whether it’s a lumbar facet block injection for lower back pain or a cervical injection for neck pain, is designed to reduce inflammation and block pain signals.

  1. Identify the Source of Pain

Before scheduling your facet block injection, it’s crucial to confirm that your pain originates from the facet joints. Conditions such as arthritis, spinal stenosis, and injuries can cause facet joint pain. A thorough diagnosis from a medical professional is essential to determine if this procedure is right for you. At NY Spine Medicine, our experienced specialists in Noho, NY will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to ensure a facet joint injection is the most effective treatment for your condition.

  1. Know the Benefits

Facet block injections offer several benefits for those suffering from chronic pain. These include:

  • Pain Relief: Significant reduction in back and neck pain.
  • Improved Mobility: Increased ability to perform daily activities without discomfort.
  • Non-Surgical: A minimally invasive alternative to surgery.
  • Quick Recovery: Minimal downtime and quick return to normal activities.
  1. Prepare for the Procedure

Preparation is key to a successful facet block injection. Here are some steps to consider:

  • Medical History: Provide a detailed medical history to your specialist, including any allergies or current medications.
  • Pre-Procedure Instructions: Follow any instructions given by your healthcare provider, such as fasting or adjusting medications.
  • Transportation: Arrange for someone to drive you to and from the procedure as you may experience temporary numbness or weakness.
  1. Post-Procedure Care and Recovery

After a facet block injection, it’s essential to follow post-procedure care guidelines to maximize the effectiveness of the treatment. This may include:

  • Rest: Allow your body time to recover by avoiding strenuous activities.
  • Follow-Up Appointments: Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and address any concerns.
  • Physical Therapy: Incorporate physical therapy if it’s recommended to strengthen the muscles supporting the spine.

Have a question?

In 1748, Jacob Sperry, a physician from Switzerland, created the city’s first botanical garden near the current intersection of Lafayette Street and Astor Place. At the time, it was located about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the developed portion of the city and served as a vacation stop for people from present-day downtown. By 1804, John Jacob Astor bought the site from Sperry and leased it to Joseph Delacroix. Delacroix built a country resort named Vauxhall Gardens on the site; the gardens had previously been located further downtown, in Tribeca.

NoHo soon became an enclave for well-to-do families. Because of rapid development on Bond, Bleecker, and Great Jones Streets, it was not affordable to build houses on these streets. These streets were among the city’s most elite at the time, and contained such personalities as “aristocratic” mayor Philip Hone. Therefore, in 1826, after Delacroix’s lease expired, Astor carved out an upper-class neighborhood from the site with Lafayette Street bisecting eastern gardens from western homes. The street was christened by the Marquis de Lafayette in July 1825.

Wealthy New Yorkers, including Astor and other members of the family, built mansions along this central thoroughfare. Astor built the Astor Library in the eastern portion of the neighborhood as a donation to the city. Alexander Jackson Davis designed eye-catching row houses called LaGrange Terrace (now Colonnade Row) for speculative builder Seth Geer. Geer built the houses for the development in 1833. The area became a fashionable, upper-class residential district, and when Lafayette Street was opened in the 1820s, it quickly became one of the most fashionable streets in New York. This location made the Gardens accessible to the residents of nearby Broadway and the Bowery. The houses once contained such notable residents as the Astor family and the Vanderbilt family, in addition to authors Washington Irving, Charles Dickens, and William Makepeace Thackeray; U.S. President John Tyler was married in these houses.
