An Overview of the Radiofrequency Ablation Process in Archdiocese of New York, NY

Are you struggling with chronic pain that just won’t go away? At NY Spine Medicine, we’re here to help. Our specialized radiofrequency ablation treatment is designed to provide long-lasting relief from persistent pain. In this guide, we provide an overview of the RFA treatment process.

Understanding Radiofrequency Ablation

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure used to reduce pain. This treatment works by sending electrical currents through a needle to heat and destroy nerve tissue, preventing pain signals from being sent to the brain. Radiofrequency ablation therapy is particularly effective for patients suffering from chronic back, neck, and joint pain, as well as certain types of nerve pain.

The Radiofrequency Ablation Process

  • Consultation: The journey begins with a thorough consultation at NY Spine Medicine in Archdiocese of New York, NY. Our experienced specialists will review your medical history, conduct a physical examination, and discuss your symptoms. This step is crucial to determine if radiofrequency ablation is the right treatment for you.
  • Preparation: Once we confirm that RFA is suitable, we’ll provide detailed instructions on how to prepare for the procedure. This typically includes fasting for a few hours before the treatment and arranging for someone to drive you home afterward.
  • The Procedure: During the radiofrequency ablation procedure, you’ll lie down comfortably while we use imaging guidance to insert a thin needle into the targeted nerve area. A small electric current is then passed through the needle to heat the nerve tissue. The entire process usually takes about 30 to 90 minutes.
  • Recovery: After the RFA procedure, you will rest in our recovery area for a short period. Most patients can return home the same day. It’s normal to experience some discomfort or swelling at the treatment site, but this typically resolves within a few days. Our team at NY Spine Medicine in Archdiocese of New York, NY will provide you with specific aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.

Radiofrequency Ablation Benefits

Radiofrequency ablation offers several benefits, making it a popular choice for chronic pain management. Some of the key advantages include:

  • Long-Lasting Relief: Many patients experience significant pain relief that can last from six months to two years.
  • Minimally Invasive: RFA is a minimally invasive treatment with a quick recovery time, allowing you to resume normal activities soon after the procedure.
  • Reduced Dependency on Medications: With effective pain relief, you may find yourself needing fewer pain medications.
  • Improved Quality of Life: By alleviating chronic pain, radiofrequency ablation can significantly enhance your overall quality of life.

Have a question?

On November 26, 1784, Pope Pius VI erected the Apostolic Prefecture of United States of America with the territory of what was then the entire United States of America. On November 6, 1789, the same pope raised this prefecture to a diocese and changed its title to Diocese of Baltimore headed by the first American bishop, John Carroll.

At the time, there was a dearth of priests to minister to the large territory. The first Catholic Church in New York City was St. Peter’s Church on Barclay Street. The land was purchased from Trinity Church with community donations and a gift of 1,000 pieces of silver from King Charles III of Spain. The church was built in the federal style. Among its regular worshippers were Elizabeth Ann Seton and Pierre Toussaint.

On April 8, 1808, Pope Pius VII erected the Diocese of Philadelphia, the Diocese of Boston, the Diocese of Bardstown, and the Diocese of New York, taking their territory from the Diocese of Baltimore. He simultaneously elevated the Diocese of Baltimore to a metropolitan archdiocese and assigned all four new sees as its suffragans. The initial territory of the Diocese of New York encompassed all of the State of New York and Sussex, Bergen, Morris, Essex, Somerset, Middlesex, and Monmouth counties in northeastern New Jersey.
