What You Should Know About RFA Treatment in Forest Hills, NY

If you’re experiencing chronic pain, you may have heard about radiofrequency ablation. But what exactly is it, and how can it help you? At NY Spine Medicine, we’re dedicated to providing comprehensive pain management solutions, including radiofrequency ablation in Forest Hills, NY. Here are some of the key things you should know about this innovative treatment.

What is Radiofrequency Ablation?

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure used to reduce pain. It works by using radio waves to generate heat, which is then applied to nerve tissues. This process disrupts the pain signals being sent to the brain, providing relief to patients. Whether you refer to it as radiofrequency ablation therapy, radiofrequency ablation treatment, or RFA treatment, the goal is the same: to help you live pain-free.

The Procedure: What to Expect

When you come to NY Spine Medicine for a radiofrequency ablation procedure, our experienced medical team will ensure you’re comfortable throughout the process. Here’s a brief overview of what you can expect during your RFA procedure:

  • Preparation: You’ll be positioned comfortably, and a local anesthetic will be applied to the targeted area.
  • Procedure: Using imaging guidance, a needle is inserted near the nerves causing your pain. Radio waves are then transmitted through the needle, heating the nerve tissue.
  • Recovery: The entire procedure typically takes about 30 to 90 minutes, and you’ll be monitored for a short period afterward before being allowed to go home.

Benefits of Radiofrequency Ablation

There are numerous radiofrequency ablation benefits that make it an attractive option for pain management:

  • Long-Lasting Relief: Many patients experience pain relief that lasts from six months to two years.
  • Minimally Invasive: With no large incisions, the risk of infection is reduced, and recovery time is faster.
  • Outpatient Procedure: You can return home the same day, making it convenient and less disruptive to your daily life.
  • Targeted Treatment: The procedure specifically targets the nerves responsible for your pain, providing more effective relief.

Is Radiofrequency Ablation Right for You?

RFA is typically recommended for patients who have not found relief through other treatments like physical therapy or medication. Conditions commonly treated with RFA include:

  • Chronic back and neck pain
  • Arthritis-related pain in the spine and joints
  • Peripheral nerve pain

At NY Spine Medicine, we’ll conduct a thorough assessment to determine if radiofrequency ablation therapy is the right option for you. Our team in Forest Hills, NY is committed to finding the most effective treatment to alleviate your pain.

Have a question?

The development of adjacent Forest Park, a park on the southern end of Forest Hills, began in 1895. Starting in 1896, the landscape architecture firm of Olmsted, Olmsted & Eliot was contracted to provide a plan for the park.

In 1906, the Cord Meyer Development Company, headed by Brooklyn attorney Cord Meyer, bought abutting land made up of six farms (those of Ascan Bakus, Casper Joost-Springsteen, Horatio N. Squire, Abram V. S. Lott, Sarah V. Bolmer, and James Van Siclen). The company then renamed the aggregate 600 acres (240 ha) “Forest Hills”, after Forest Park. Single-family homes, designed by architects such as Robert Tappan and William Patterson, were constructed on these 600 acres. The roads of Forest Hills were laid out by 1910. The present-day Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills is named after Ascan Bakus.

Margaret Sage, the founder of the Russell Sage Foundation, bought 142 acres (57 ha) of land from the Cord Meyer Development Company in 1908. This land was to be used for “Forest Hills Gardens”, a development on the southern side of Forest Hills. Grosvenor Atterbury, a renowned architect, was given the commission to design Forest Hills Gardens. The neighborhood was planned on the model of the garden communities of England, with its own inn, garage, and post office. It also included narrow, winding roads to limit through traffic. As a result, there are many Tudor-style homes in Forest Hills. The more sprawling ones are located in Forest Hills Gardens, but most are located in the section loosely bounded by 68th Avenue on the north; 72nd Road on the south; 108th Street on the west; and Grand Central Parkway on the east. The construction of this area used a prefabricated building technique. Each house was built from approximately 170 standardized precast concrete panels, fabricated off-site and positioned by crane. The houses were mostly constructed between 1910 and 1917.
